Climate Action and
Greenhouse Gases
Climate change
is expected to be one of the most important environmental issues
of the 21st Century. Data on the global climate shows
that there has been an unprecedented warming trend during the
last one hundred years, culminating with 1990-2000 period being
the warmest decade in human history. There is now broad
consensus among scientists that much of this warming trend is
due to anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs).
Many companies
and agencies are taking action to mitigate their GHGs. They are
taking steps to quantify their emissions, set emission reduction
targets, and implement emission reduction projects. Ryerson, Master
and Associates, Inc. assists companies and agencies in
charting the best course of action. We have many years of
experience to share with our clients to help address their
greenhouse gas emissions. Our services include:
-
Documentation of greenhouse gas
emission inventories
-
Third-party certification of GHG
emission rates and verification of GHG projects
-
Preparation of strategic plans
for meeting emission reduction targets
-
Evaluating the
cost-effectiveness of emission reduction options, both on/off-system
-
Implementing projects that
achieve greenhouse gas emission reductions
-
Verifying project emission
reductions
-
Securing emission reduction
credits for greenhouse gas emission reductions
RMA is one of a
select group of companies approved by the State of California to
prepare and certify GHG emission inventories for the California
Climate Action Registry (CCAR), and act as a CCAR Approved
Technical Assistance Provider. Through our active involvement in
the CCAR process, we have demonstrated experience in the
certification and verification of technical data, quality
control, and environmental management systems, and we have
demonstrated our ability
to render sound professional judgments about GHG emissions and
emission reduction strategies.
Companies and
agencies need to consider the advantages of early action to
address greenhouse gas emissions. Some of the potential benefits
of early action include:
-
Saving
money through energy efficiency and resource conservation
-
Future
emission trading opportunities through the certification
process
-
Demonstrating environmental leadership
-
Gaining
a competitive advantage by increasing operational efficiency
-
Managing
carbon-related risks
-
Participating in the climate change policy discussions
-
Securing
credit and recognition for early reductions
RMA has prepared inventories and conducted GHG emission
certifications for a large number of companies and agencies,
including:
-
Investor and municipal owned
(IOUS) utilities
-
Independent
power producers
-
Natural gas
suppliers
-
Mining
and petroleum operations
-
